Tribute Dinner to Honour Justice Wachowich

The Canadian Bar Assocation Alberta Branch is holding a special tribute dinner in conjunction with its Alberta Law Conference at the Calgary Westin on Friday evening January 29th, 2010.

If you register as a full attendee of the Alberta Law Conference two tickets are included in your fee (ALC brochure and registration information will be mailed to every lawyer and will be posted on the www.cba-alberta.org website).

Tickets are also available for sale on a first come basis to non-registrants for $150 per ticket or $1200 for a table of eight. Please order tickets directly from the Canadian Bar Association at tickets@cba-alberta.org or call 403-263-3707.

Is the Law Society acting "In the Public Interest?"

The Law Society declares at every turn that it acts "in the public interest." What do we mean when we say that? And what is the Law Society doing to give effect to that bold commitment?

Plan to join the Law Society of Alberta at its plenary session at the Alberta Law Conference on Thursday morning, January 28, 2010 at the Westin Hotel in Calgary, Alberta.

This session will explore the principled basis for acting "in the public interest". The Law Society will  discuss how it advances this vision through core regulatory functions, and through principled governance of the Law Society's policy work. Specific initiatives -- the Safety of Trust Property and Alternate Delivery of Legal Services -- will be analyzed from this "public interest" perspective.

Registration information will be mailed to every lawyer and will be posted on the www.cba-alberta.org website.

Emergency Preparations - Operation of Alberta Courts

The Courts of Alberta have been preparing to address the challenges around a possible outbreak of influenza in the fall and winter of 2009.

Those who have matters before the Courts - whether the Provincial Court, Queen's Bench or Court of Appeal - or who are interested in matters before the Courts should check the Courts' website regularly at www.albertacourts.ab.ca for updates and information on the operations of the Courts.

Notices will be posted within court premises as and when required to provide updates and information on the Courts' emergency preparations.
