Start your Continuing Professional Development Plans

The new Continuing Professional Development program preserves and encourages both the independence and professionalism of lawyers.

By March 15, 2009, all Alberta lawyers will be required to declare to the LSA that they have a CPD plan.

The core requirement is that each lawyer make a plan annually for their own continuing professional development, which is broadly defined as any significant learning activity that is:

  1. relevant to a lawyer's professional needs,
  2. pertinent to long-term career interests as a lawyer,
  3. in the interests of the lawyer's employer, or
  4. related to the professional ethics and responsibilities of lawyers.

The online Resource Bank at www.CPDalberta.ca lists not only courses, but online learning programs and materials from past courses, not only from Alberta, but Ontario, Manitoba and BC as well. More details are also available at www.lawsociety.ab.ca
