Dispute resolution in the courts and beyond is the focus of this year's conference hosted by the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice (CIAJ). Its annual conference will be held October 10-12 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Doing justice: dispute resolution in the Courts and Beyond will examine questions around private justice and the impact on access to justice. The CIAJ is a voluntary, non-profit organization that participates in the improvement and advancement of the administration of justice. More details on the conference can be obtained from www.ciaj-icaj.ca
One hundred years almost to the day after the Territorial Supreme Court was replaced by the Alberta Supreme Court, the legal profession will begin to enjoy a futuristic new courthouse - perhaps the best in the country. To celebrate the passing of time, the Court of Queen's Bench and the Provincial Court are creating a TIME CAPSULE OF JUSTICE. Objects, documents and photos that represent the current justice system and touch on the nature of our culture will be stored in a drum and sealed. Before the end of 2007, the drum will be ensconced in the lobby of the North Tower of the Calgary Courts Centre and left there in public view for fifty years. In 2057, the drum will be opened. What artifacts, photos, stories, momentoes do you want to see in the Time Capsule of Justice? Do you have any items to contribute? Do you have a better name for it?
