Harmonization Tax - Effective July 1, 2010
Harmonization of GST/PST in Ontario and BC may now affect how taxes are charged or paid. On July 1, 2010, tax charged or paid will depend upon the province in which the goods or services are deemed to be provided. Two articles are posted which provide further information. General Consumer Survey Supports Ongoing Work of the Law Society
Benchmark measures and indicators gathered through a general consumer survey on legal services will support the ongoing work of the Law Society of Alberta. As a regulator of the legal profession, the Law Society of Alberta is currently engaged in research on the delivery of legal services by lawyers in Alberta.

New Safety of Trust Property Strategy: Pilot Program to be Phased In
The rollout of the Law Society’s new strategy to ensure continued safety of trust property and the continued reputation of the profession will begin with a pilot project.
In April 2010, the Benchers approved a revised rollout of the new program, authorizing a pilot to be phased in commencing May and June 2010 with full implementation to occur in January 2011.
The Law Society’s new strategy around safety of trust property will introduce new control techniques and new audit measures.
